"Murat depicted as a sphinx. " Bronze patina. Granite base (posterior). 18 x 11 cm. Ht: 19 cm. B.E. Consulate period. History : This beautiful representation is probably linked to Freemasonry. Initiated Freemason on December 26, 1801 at the lodge "L'Heureuse Rencontre" in Milan, Prince Murat was a member of the Parisian lodge "Napoleon". On April 5, 1805, he became Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Orient de France and, on September 30 of the same year, was elected First Grand Supervisor. In 1808 he was venerable of "La Colombe", a lodge which then changed its title to that of "Sainte-Caroline" in honour of his wife. He founded, on October 27, 1809, the Grand Orient of Naples, and became its Grand Master.
