White marble bust of a woman in the taste... - Lot 297 - Osenat
White marble bust of a woman in the taste of Antiquity, resting on a pedestal, signed on the reverse V° Consani F 1845. Italy, circa 1845. H : 60 cm Vincenzo Consani (1818-1888) must be considered as one of the best representative of the school of Antonio Canova in the nineteenth century in Italy. His masterpiece entitled "The Victory" is today kept in the Pitti Palace in Florence. A similar bust was presented at a public auction in Florence at Pandolfini Casa d'Aste, December 16, 2009, lot 367. A distant source of inspiration, apart from any consideration of the hairstyle of our model, very much rooted in his time, can be found in the famous Fonseca bust, now kept in the Capitoline Museum.
