GRENVILLE (William). L.A.S. to the Marshal... - Lot 72 - Osenat
GRENVILLE (William). L.A.S. to the Marshal of Castrie. (Dorn Shat), August 1, 1794, in-4, 2 pp. Very beautiful political letter in French from the English minister addressed in 1794 to the Marshal of Castrie, chief of staff of the Count of Provence. "I have received, Mr. Marshal, through the hands of the Duke of Harcourt, the obliging letter that you were kind enough to write to me (...) it is with a real pleasure to see circumstances arrive which will be able to put me in personal contact with V.E. and give us the means to work together for the support of a cause on the success of which the existence of any civil society depends. I have expressed to the Duke of Harcourt the desire of the King's ministers that His Royal Highness Archbishop Cte d'Artois, on his arrival here (...) be accompanied by a minister who is useful to the common cause and whose character is such as to inspire complete confidence. (...) we will at least have the satisfaction (...) of having neglected nothing that could help to save Europe, and it is a consolation for the King's heart to be able to offer H.R.H. for the time being, a more agreeable position than that in which He finds Himself at present (...)".
