FRANCHET D'ESPÈREY (Louis-Félix-marie-François). Signed autograph letter to a "dear friend". [Probably Constantinople], April 14, 1919. 4 pp. in-8. After his victory on the Eastern Front, the future Marshal was placed at the head of the Allied occupying armies in Constantinople to maintain peace and stand in the way of the Red Army's advance: he evacuated Odessa and Sevastopol, and protected Bessarabia. "« ... I had a lot to do. Odessa, which passed to me on 20 March in the middle of a crisis, had to be evacuated not under military pressure, but because it was impossible to feed this population of one million inhabitants.
