Rectangular snuffbox made of horn, lined with tortoiseshell inside. Punched gold frame with two oval miniatures under glass on top, circled with chased gold and sky blue enamel, presenting General Leclerc by Jean Baptiste ISABEY and Pauline Bonaparte by Daniel SAINT. Inside a note written in pen "General Leclerc and Mrs. Leclerc born Pauline Bonaparte became Princess Borghese". Title stamp Paris 750 and guaranteed average 1798-1809. Goldsmith's stamp. 93 x 55 x Ht 20 mm. B.E. (traces of insects, miniatures stained on the edge). Consulate period. History: In 1797, Napoleon had Pauline married Charles Victoire Emmanuel Leclerc, one of the best generals in the Republic. Charles Leclerc's young sisters will marry, one, the future Marshal Davout and the other, Major General Louis Friant. The wedding was celebrated in Milan on June 14, 1797. The following year, in April, they had a son named Dermide Louis Napoleon. Accompanying Leclerc to Santo Domingo, she takes care of her husband who had contracted yellow fever. Charles Leclerc died on November 1, 1802. Pauline's despair is spectacular, she cuts her hair and places it in her coffin. She had her husband's heart put in an urn and repatriated the remains to France to bury them in the park of their castle in Montgobert.
