MARQUISE in molded white lacquered wood, canopy carved with rosette. Fluted and filleted feet. Stamped G. IACOB for George JACOB received master in Paris in 1765. Bears an inventory label in Indian ink "?Monsieur le Maréchal de CASTRIES for the salon de Ollainville? Louis XVI period Charles Eugène Gabriel DE LA CROIX, marquis of CASTRIES, baron of the States of Languedoc, count of Charlus, baron of Castelnau and Montjouvent, lord of Puylaurens and Lézignan, was a marshal of France born in Paris on February 25, 1727 and died in Wolfenbüttel on January 11, 1801. In 1789, the castle of Ollainville belonged to M. le Maréchal duc de Castries, who had it enlarged in 1782. Some of his family's tombs still exist on the side of the church of La Norville. The latter having emigrated during the Revolution, the castle and its outbuildings were confiscated for the benefit of the Nation.
