RARE AND SUPERB LADY'S JEWELRY OF THE HOUSE... - Lot 267 - Osenat
RARE AND SUPERB LADY'S JEWELRY OF THE HOUSE OF THE EMPRESS EUGENIE, HAVING BELONGED TO ANTONIA D'ATTAINVILLE, LADY-IN-WAITING OF THE EMPRESS DURING HER EXILE. Gold (18K), formed by a concave blue enamelled shield, enriched with a ribbon on both sides and surmounted by the figure "IE" of the Empress Eugenie, screwed back. The whole paved with faceted diamonds (missing three). The shield is surmounted by the imperial crown with red enamelled cap and branches chiseled in high relief alternately of imperial eagles with outstretched wings and foliage, also paved with diamonds in a row, hinged. Gold suspension ring with pearl decoration. The whole is set with approximately 113 diamonds. Ribbon knot in white moiré silk with a large central sky blue band and black outer bands. 7 x 4,6 cm. Gross weight: 46.25 g. T.T.B. Second Empire period (circa 1855). Provenance : -Antonia d'Attainville. -Bequeathed to her goddaughter and niece Nicole de Baciocchi, and then to her descendants. History : This distinctive mark, created around 1855, is probably distributed to less than twenty copies. The known examples are particularly rare. Our copy is to our knowledge the only one distributed after the suppression of the House of the Empress at the fall of the Second Empire. Biography : Antonia d'ATTAINVILLE Antoinette, Marie de las Dolores y Gracia, Joséphine, Nicette, Eugénie, Félicie, Henriette, Dominique, Toussaint de Vejarano, known as Antonia de Vejarano. She was born on March 20, 1870 in Madrid, the eldest daughter of Don Felice de Vejarano y Diaz de Bulnes and Henriette de Cabarrus y Kirkpatrick. She was married to Felix de Baciocchi-Adorno, who was secretary to Empress Eugenie from 1915 until her death in 1920. Antonia, affectionately called the "Niece of the Empress", was in fact her first cousin. She accompanied her as lady-in-waiting from 1890 to 1900. Related works: The jewels of the Lady of the House of Empress Eugenie are particularly rare. -That of the Grand Mistress of the House of the Empress, the Princess of Essling (private collection), exhibited at the exhibition "Art in the Service of Power - Napoleon I - Napoleon III" (Atelier Grognard, April 13, 2018 - July 9, 2018) and then at the Musée de la Légion d'honneur et des ordres de chevalerie.
