THE GENERAL TERREYRE Wax seal with the arms of General Denis TERREŸRE, baron of the Empire. In brass, engraved with the arms under the baron's hat. 25 x 20 mm. Without handle. A.B.E. First Empire period. The arms of the baron TERREŸRE are : " Azure, the helmet of gold, accosted of two palms of the same, quarter of the barons gone out of the army " Biography : Denis TERREŸRE (1756-1823) From 1793 to Year II, he served in the Sambre-et-Meuse army, where he was appointed lieutenant on September 16, 1793, captain on November 7, 1793, squadron leader on June 23, 1794, and brigade commander on July 30, 1794 in the 18th cavalry regiment, which became the 27th dragoon regiment on September 24, 1803. In 1795, he took part in the siege of Mayence, where he was congratulated by General Kléber for the brilliant conduct of his regiment. In 1798, he joined the army of Helvetia, then moved to the army of Italy in 1799. He was wounded by a gunshot to the right knee on March 26, 1799, during the battle of Verona. On July 5, 1800, he joined the reserve army in Dijon, then in October 1800 the army of Grisons, and in 1801 he was sent to the Gironde observation corps in Bayonne. He was made a knight of the Legion of Honor on December 11, 1803 and an officer of the order on June 14, 1804. In 1805, he took part in the Austrian campaign within the Grande Armée, and was elevated to the rank of Commander of the Legion of Honor on December 25, 1805. He was promoted to brigadier general on November 14, 1806, and retired the same day. He was created Baron of the Empire on June 29, 1808.
