SOUVENIR D'ALEXANDRE LOUIS BERTHIER, PRINCE DE NEUFCHATEL ET DE WAGRAM, MARECHAL DE FRANCE (1753-1815) Portfolio with 12 gussets, each bearing the revolutionary months, in long-grained red morocco, decorated with gold petit fer with moving foliage and borders. Covered inside with green morocco. Decorated on the back with the number A.B. (Alexandre Berthier). Brass lock with two inking points. B.E. missing the inscription fructidor and the key 177x270mm. B.E. Revolutionary period. 3500/4500 Biography : Louis Alexandre BERTHIER prince of Neuchâtel, duke of Valengin, prince of Wagram Marshal and peer of France (Versailles 1753-Bamberg 1815). Major General of the National Guard of Versailles in 1789, Chief of Staff of La Fayette, Luckner, then of the Army of Italy, he became Chief of Staff of Bonaparte in 1796. He was Minister of War from 1800 to 1807, and Major General of the Grande Armée from 1805 to 1814. Allied to Louis XVIII during the Hundred Days, he took refuge in Bamberg, Bavaria.
