Biographies: Born in Dresden in 1803, Marie-Josèphe de SAXE was the daughter of Prince Maximilian of Saxony and Princess Caroline of Bourbon-Parme. Following the death of her mother, she was sent to a convent at the age of three, which she left twelve years later to become the third wife of Ferdinand VII, King of Spain, in 1819. She died at the age of 25 without leaving an heir to the Spanish throne. Her brother, Prince Clement of Saxony, born in Dresden in 1798, was the second son of Prince Maximilian of Saxony and Princess Caroline of Bourbon-Parme. He died at the age of 23 from a feverish illness contracted while travelling in Italy with his brothers, the future kings of Saxony Frederick August II and John I. Raffaele GIOVINE was the most famous miniaturist at the porcelain factory in Naples in the 1820s, responsible for many portraits of members of the royal family (Angela Carola-Perrotti, museo naziolane di capodimonte, ceramiche, 2006, p. 119).
