Biography : Pascal Paoli (1725-1807) Pascal Paoli was the youngest son of Giacinto Paoli, General of the Nation who in 1729 became one of the leaders of the insurgents when Corsica rose up against Genoese domination. In 1755, at the age of thirty, he was elected Chief General and presided over the destiny of an independent Corsica. Paoli endowed the Corsican State with an administration, a justice system, a currency and a republican constitution. In 1790 he was elected Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard and President of the Departmental Executive Board. In 1794, Paoli was raised to the rank of "Father of the Fatherland". Paoli came closer to England to separate Corsica from France and unite it with England: it was the ephemeral Anglo-Corsican kingdom (June 1794-October 1796).
