Armchair with an upside-down back in moulded... - Lot 187 - Osenat
Armchair with an upside-down back in moulded white relaquered wood carved with palmettes, the curved belt, it rests on baluster front legs and arched back legs. Stamped, Jacob D. rue Meslée. Consulate period. Jacob D. rue Meslée, stamp used from 1803 and 1813. The location of this chair does not seem to be known before 1815. MRCV corresponds to the property mark affixed under Louis XVIII. This armchair was moved from Versailles to Fontainebleau, the double F and N°22399 correspond to an entry on May 8, 1863 for the service of the Stables of the castle, probably for the apartment and services of the Grand Veneur under Napoleon III. The seat is then covered in embossed green velvet and described as a "armchair with a crosier". It was sold in 1881 at the estate's public sales.
