Gilded wood console table with an animated... - Lot 93 - Osenat
Gilded wood console table with an animated shape, the openwork belt decorated with asymmetrical rocailles, cartouche, foliage and flowers, resting on arched legs ending in volutes, (gilding redone and red marble from Flanders brought back, probably in the 19th century). Louis XV period. H: 83 cm, W: 149 cm, D: 73 cm The idea of a concave recess at the top of the uprights on a certain number of 18th century console tables most probably came from sculptors such as the Slodtz brothers or François Roumier, authors of drawings and engravings that were widely distributed at the time. It can be found in particular on two tables kept at the Louvre Museum in Paris (B.G.B. Pallot, Le mobilier du musée du Louvre, Dijon, 1993, n°8 and n°9) and also in a rather similar way on the gilded wooden table supporting the plan of the forest of Saint-Germain en Laye delivered by the carpenters Foliot in 1757 to the Château de Compiègne and kept today at the Château de Versailles (D. Meyer, Le mobilier de Versailles, Dijon, 2002, p. 209).
