SÈVRES Figure from the model of the Emperor's Particular Service in hard porcelain bisque representing Ceres standing on a square terrace, holding ears of wheat in his left hand, draped with a long tunic on a square base Marked in hollow: stamp of the Sèvres manufactory, used between 1800 and 1850. First half of the 19th century. H. 44 cm. This figure is from the model made for the Emperor's Private Service, also called the Service des Quartiers Généraux, begun in 1808 and delivered on March 27, 1810 on the occasion of the wedding of Napoleon and Marie Louise in April 1810. The service of the Headquarters consisted of a bisque surtout composed of the chariot of the Geniuses of Arts pulled by horses, two antique tripods, two antique candelabra, two seats of Bacchus and sixteen figures from the antiques of the Napoleon Museum. Alexandre Brongniart, director of the Sèvres manufactory, and Dominique Vivant-Denon choose together the antique sculptures in the Napoleon Museum which serve as models except for the chariot, created by the sculptor Moutoni. Two drawings, dated 1809, are kept in the archives of the Sèvres manufactory. The architect Théodore Brongniart, father of the director of the manufactory, received 100 francs for these drawings. The figure of Ceres is copied by the sculptor Louis-Simon Boizot from the original brought from the Roman Museum in the Vatican where he left in 1815. The special service of the Emperor accompanied by the "surtout" was first deployed on 2 April 1810 on the occasion of the Grand Couvert during the celebration of the marriage of Napoleon and Marie Louise at the Château des Tuileries. A painting by Alexandre Dufay, known as Casanova, now in the Château de Fontainebleau, depicts the wedding banquet on which part of the Grand Vermeil, two antique bisque candelabra among gilded bronze candelabra, two bisque Medici vases and the sixteen figures from the antique in bisque are depicted. A figure from Zeno and another from Urania f
