KINGDOM OF BAVIERE ORDER OF SAINT HUBERT, instituted in 1444 Rare knight's plate that belonged to Marshal MOUTON, Count of LOBAU. Radiant silver star, gold cross with red enamelled centre marked with the motto of the order "IN TRAU VAST". Lined with green morocco marked in gold " BIENNAIS ORFEVRE DE L'EMPEREUR ET ROI A PARIS " with a Biennais system steel clasp and two hooks. Diam : 85 mm Gross weight : 64,7 g. GROSS WEIGHT : 64,7 G. First Historical Empire period: The Marshal is named Knight of the Order, the most important of the Kingdom of Bavaria, on October 24th 1809, on proposal of Emperor Napoleon I to the King of Bavaria, notably for the bravery of Mouton during the Austrian Campaign on the Landshut Bridge and in Essling, in a critical situation, "for having repulsed the enemy seven times, and thus ensured the glory of our weapons" This is, to our knowledge, one of the only metal plates of this order executed by Biennais, the Emperor's models being in canetille and velvet. Provenance: Descendancy of Marshal MOUTON. Biography : Georges Mouton, count of Lobau (1770-1838) Elected lieutenant by the volunteers of the Meurthe, captain from November 1792, aide-de-camp of General Meynier one year later, Mouton left the army of the Rhine in 1795 for Italy and served there at the staff of Joubert. He distinguished himself at the siege of Genoa but was not promoted to colonel until 1803. Brigadier General at the beginning of 1805 and aide-de-camp to Napoleon, he fought with him in the campaigns of 1805-1807 and was seriously wounded in Friedland. A Major General shortly afterwards, he left for Spain, where he distinguished himself in Medina del Rio Seco (14 July 1808). Recalled in November by the Emperor, he resumed his duties as aide-de-camp and followed him in the campaign against Austria, accomplished a feat of arms at Landshut (21 April) by crossing the burning bridge at the head of his grenadiers, charged with a bayonet and retook Essling with the riflemen of the
