1959 Facel Vega HK500 - Lot 31
1959 Facel Vega HK500 – French Version Chassis: X3/0535 French registration document - Delivered new in October 1959 in Seine-et-Marne. - One of the most legendary Facels - Fully restored in the 1990s, maintenance records available since then. - Known history. - Major mechanical overhaul in 2021. Delivered new on October 28, 1959, to Mr. Oury in Seine-et-Marne, this Facel Vega HK500 is part of the great tradition of prestigious French GTs. Exported to the United States the following year, it passed successively into the hands of Mr. Bell and then Mr. Chip, a resident of St. Louis, Missouri, who had the car repainted white. Returning to France a few years later, it was acquired by Mr. Bidel. Between 1994 and 1997, Mr. Bidel undertook a complete restoration in the south of France: the bodywork, upholstery, and mechanics were completely redone. The cost of the work amounted to 245,000 FRF, or approximately €56,400 today. A detailed file accompanies the vehicle. In 1998, the car was purchased by a French enthusiast living in Arizona, who kept it until 2003. It then passed into the hands of Mr. Bouthenet, another French collector living in the United States. In 2007, the HK500 returned to Europe for good before joining an important private collection in the south of France. In 2021, a thorough mechanical overhaul was carried out: the engine was removed, the steering box and linkages were replaced, new ball joints were fitted, the electrical system was reconditioned, and work was carried out on the pneumatic components. Air conditioning was also installed during this project. This example therefore benefits from a documented history and a presentation consistent with the reputation of this iconic model.
