2000 INDIAN - Lot 57
We recommend that future purchasers carry out the customary restarts required by the immobilization of these machines in the collector's museum. Chief type Serial number: SCDCNB514YG004138 1442 cm3 3 186 € invoices To register 846 A (customs) 6 000 / 10 000 € After the demise of the original Indian company in 1953, there were sporadic attempts to revive a firm that had been one of America's leading brands. The original company had broken up in the early 1950s, triggering a legal dispute which prevented the revival of production and was only resolved in 1999 with the formation of the Indian Motorcycle Corporation. The latter resumed production with, naturally, a V-twin engine which, for reasons of minimum power levels and compliance with anti-pollution standards, received overhead valves instead of the "laterals" of the Indian of yesteryear. The Chief's new air-cooled unit displaced 1,442 cm3 and delivered 75 hp at 5,200 rpm. The 5-speed gearbox preceded a belt drive, and the wheels were braked by discs. While the mechanicals were modern, the styling was deliberately "retro", with the tank and distinctive "Art Deco" mudguards reminiscent of classic Indian bikes from the 1940s. The model on offer is a 2000 Chief. The file contains its Indian Motorcycle certificate of origin.
