EXCEPTIONAL AND UNIQUE "BOUTET A VERSAILLES" FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS. Round barrel, blued, strongly flared at the muzzle, with thunderbolt sides, engraved and decorated with gold at the muzzle with a garland of flowers and foliage; in the middle, with a frieze of interlaces and, at the thunderbolt, on a gold background decorated in succession, hallmarked "JB.G" on the left side; in the middle, "N.B", on the right side "L.C", enriched with a garland of flowers, lozenges, foliage and a frieze of three triangles; engraved on the right "Boutet Directeur Artiste", on the left "Manufacture à Versailles" and, on the top, on an amati background, "Arme d'honneur donnée en 1798 par la République française au général Macdonald et appartenant à son petit-fils le commandant de Massa". Tailpiece decorated with foliage, palms and triangles. Lock engraved "Manufre à Versailles" and flat-bodied swan-neck hammer. Spark arrestor and battery polished to a mirror finish. Wrought "V" safety at the rear of the hammer foot. Counterplate, trigger guard, butt plate return, door and ramrod rings in gilded, cut, fully amatized brass. Fully checkered buttplate. Selected walnut frame with long shaft. Stock with cheekpiece carved with a leafy rosette; finely chequered stock neck; wood trigger guard tail, carved with foliage, nicely curved. Wooden ramrod with blond horn and gilded brass tips. B.E. Directoire period (barrel blue stained, tiny and very slight dents on the wood, retouching to the gilding). Total length: 720 mm. Barrel length: 325 mm. Muzzle diameter: 55 mm. Hallmarks : "JB. G": Levasseur Benjamin. "N.B. Nicolas Noël Boutet "L.G. barrel supplied by Liège Provenance: - Marshal Etienne MACDONALD, Duke of Taranto. - Passed down to his daughter, Anne Duchesse de Massa (1792-1870). -Alexandre Philippe, Marquis de Massa (1831-1910), then descendants. - Then private collections. - Jean Louis Noisiez Collection.
