Cofondateur de l'Ecole de Barbizon et précurseur de l'impressionnisme, celui qu'on désignait alors comme «le Delacroix du paysage» fut néanmoins critiqué au sein de l'académie qui refusa d'admettre l'exposition de ses toiles au salon de Paris de 1837 à 1848. En 1849, le peintre renoue avec l'Académie grâce à ses deux toiles Sortie de forêt de Fontainebleau, soleil couchant et Allée de châtaigniers (Musée du Louvre). En 1852, il reçoit tous les honneurs à l'occasion de la présentation de Groupe de chênes, Apremont (Musée du Louvre). Co-founder of the Barbizon School and a precursor of Impressionism, the one then known as the «Delacroix of the landscape» was nevertheless criticized within the academy who refused to admit the exhibition of his paintings at the Salon Paris from 1837 to 1848. In 1849, the painter returns to the Academy through its two works "Output Fontainebleau forest, sunset" and "Alley chestnut" (Louvre Museum). In 1852, he received all the honors on the occasion of the presentation of "Group oaks, Apremont" (Louvre Museum)
