Barthélémy PRIEUR (1536-1611), after Funerary genie Plaster Height: 77 cm; Width: 95 cm; Depth: 34 cm Our work is based on one of the two bronze genies commissioned in 1585 for the funerary monument of Christophe de Thou (1508-1582) in the church of Saint-André-des-Arcs in Paris. Dismembered during the French Revolution, the statues of the geniuses entered the Louvre in 1818. Prieur drew his inspiration from the figures in Michelangelo's tomb of the Medici family, built between 1526 and 1531 in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence.
