"LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR..." - Lot 221
"LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR..." DAVOUT (Louis-Nicolas). Piece signed "P Deckmuhl" as Minister of War (one p. in-4), with autograph apostille signed by Minister Secretary of State Hugues-Bernard Maret (3 words), addressed to General Joseph-Marie Dessaix in Lyon. Paris, March 27, 1815. "The Emperor has been proclaimed in Rennes, Nantes and Brest with the greatest enthusiasm, as well as in all the western departments. The national cockade was displayed in Metz, and the imperial government was recognized everywhere, to cries of vive l'empereur...". In an extraordinarily audacious move, Napoleon I returned from Elba and took up residence in the Tuileries on March 20, 1815. The Hundred Days were about to begin.
