Archibald Standish HARTRICK (1864-1950) "Riverside at Quimperlé, Finistère" ink drawing on watermarked laid paper Ink drawing, on Royal Irish Linen laid paper, Marcus Ward Co. Signed, located and dated 1886 at bottom. Sight dimensions: H. 17 x W. 22.4 cm. Frame dimensions: H. 22.5 x W. 28.8 cm. Note : Scottish painter, studied at the Slade School of Art in London, then at the Académie Julian and the Atelier Cormon in Paris. He spent the summer of 1886 in Pont-Aven with Paul Gauguin. In Paris, he became friends with Vincent van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec and exhibited at the Salon de Paris in 1887. Hartrick drew and painted with Gauguin, van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec during his stay in France. This drawing was made during this period. Regular exhibitions at the Royal Academy, member of the Royal Watercolour Society. Successful participation in numerous exhibitions. Works now in the collections of the British Museum and the National Gallery. Provenance: album of drawings from 1884 - 1887.
