TOULOUSE-LAUTREC (Henri de). Autograph letter signed "HTLaut - Lot 195
TOULOUSE-LAUTREC (Henri de). Autograph letter signed "HTLautrec", the three capitals forming his artist's monogram, [addressed to the writer and journalist Firmin Javel]. Paris, June 25, 1893. 3pp. in-12. "Sir, I have received a request from Mr. [Jules] Roques, director of the Courrier français, asking me to reproduce a Jane Avril poster. As you are the first to whom I have promised this reproduction, I have asked him to come to an agreement with you so that your issues appear simultaneously, in order not to deflower the matter. This letter gives you full powers, so that if the courier makes a mess of us, we can rap the knuckles of its director, you, me and Kleimman..." Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec put his poster Jane Avril au Jardin de Paris on deposit with Édouard Kleinmann, and published reproductions in two weeklies, on July 2, 1893 in LeCourrier français by Jules Roques, and the following July 29 in L'Art français by Firmin Javel.
