LYAUTEY (Hubert). Correspondence of 26 autographed letters a - Lot 184
LYAUTEY (Hubert). Correspondence of 26 autographed letters and cards [to writer and publisher Daniel Halévy]. 1923-1934. All mounted on tabs on paper leaves bound in a small folio volume, gray half-box and silver paper-covered boards.
Congratulations on various publications by Daniel Halévy, especially when these books or articles closely relate to Marshal Lyautey's own experience. Thus, after reading Daniel Halévy's article "UnCinquantenaire, la démission de MacMahon" in LaRevue hebdomadaire, Marshal Lyautey wrote a very long letter (January 26, 1929) about his family origins, his youth at Saint-Cyr, his commitment to the Legitimists, and the divisions caused by MacMahon's attempt to restore the monarchy (whom he had met with his parents). The End of Notables reminds him that he lived in Versailles, in the society described by Daniel Halévy. Décadence de la liberté (Decadence of Liberty) evokes the marshal's "the misdeeds of the Madagascar expedition", "the disappearance of the army" or "the parliamentary mandate degenerated into a 'career'". Reading LaRépublique des comités led him to recriminate against the radical party and the Freemasons. Etc.
