BERLIOZ (Hector). Autograph letter signed "Hector Berlioz", - Lot 164
BERLIOZ (Hector). Autograph letter signed "Hector Berlioz", to the Kapellmeister of the Dresden Opera, Karl August Krebs. Hanover, April 1, 1854. One p. 1/2 in-8, marginal cracks previously restored. 600 / 800 € "My dear Mr. Krebbs, do you still remember me, and my concert in Hamburg [in 1843] and our long rehearsals, during which you assisted me with such warmth? I shall soon be calling on your good care again in Dresden. M.de Lüttichau [Wolf Adolf August von Lüttichau, director of the Dresden Opera] has kindly authorized me to come and give two concerts at your great theater; among other things, I will perform my symphony of Romeo and Juliet, which includes a contralto solo; and I would be very happy if Madame Krebbs could accept this part of the song, which needs to be said with a certain lyricism and requires a true artist [this refers to the lacantatrice Aloyse Michalesi, born in Prague under the name of Aloisia Michalička, who married Karl August Krebs in 1850]. Please be kind enough to help me obtain this favor. I shall arrive in Dresden on the 12thor 15thof this month, and I shall be very happy to see you again..." Karl August Krebs had succeeded Richard Wagner as Kappellmeister at the Dresden Opera.
