CLAUDEL (Paul). L'Otage. Corrected typescript [1910]. (2)-11 - Lot 154
CLAUDEL (Paul). L'Otage. Corrected typescript [1910]. (2)-119ff. in-folio, folder preserved.
Typed at the Nrf on Paul Claudel's manuscript, addressed to him for corrections. Paul Claudel made over 200 amendments in his own hand, mainly spelling corrections, but also additions and deletions. He then sent it back to the Nrf, where the magazine's editorial secretary, Pierre de Lanux, gave a few indications to the typographer before sending it to the Saint-Catherine printing house in Bruges, which printed the magazine. L'Otage appeared in issues 24 to 26 of the Nrf, from December 1910 to February 1911.
In a signed note attached here, Max Brun states that he knows this typing was in the hands of bookseller and publisher Adrienne Monnier, and hypothesizes that she may have received it from André Gide and then given it to Maurice Saillet, whom she employed for a time.
Enclosed, the program for the play L'Otage performed at the Théâtre de l'Œuvre in 1914. In-4, paperback with illustrated cover. Includes cast list and facsimile of the play's last scene, written for L'Œuvre and not included in the published edition.
