First edition of his French translation of the seven preserved plays by Aeschylus, one of 100 numbered copies on Hollande laid paper, justified by the publisher.
Copy enriched with 4 pieces: Leconte de Lisle (Charles-Marie). 2 autograph letters signed to the writer Catulle Mendès (1888 and 1890), including one evoking the performance of his play LesÉrinnyes. -Pirou (Eugène). Photographic portrait of Charles-Marie Leconte de Lisle. Circa 1880, mounted on bristol board printed by the Paris photographer. -Thiriat (Henri). Portrait of Charles-Marie Leconte deLisle, woodcut from the above plate. Print on chine. In the margin, an autograph note signed by Gaston de Bar indicating that this portrait was commissioned by Catulle Mendès.
Provenance: Catulle Mendès's nephew, Gaston de Bar (1866-1948), who was deputy director and head of the bureau des travaux historiques et scientifiques et des sociétés savantes at the French Ministry of Education (ex-libris sticker).
