Second edition of this work devoted to the gladiators of ancient Rome. Illustrated first edition with 16 copper-engraved folding plates, 4 large format, unnumbered, and 12 medium format, lettered A to M. With a woodcut mark by Christophe Plantin on the title. -De Amphitheatro liber. Ibid. 1585. In-4, 105-(3d of which the last blank)pp. copper-engraved illustration: 2 folding plates out of text mounted on tabs (views of the Colosseum) and a composition in the text. With a woodcut mark by Christophe Plantin on the title. Subsequently printed, by the same author, with special title leaf: De Amphitheatris quæ extra Romam. Copper-engraved illustration: 2 mitered double plates and 3 compositions in the text, including views of the arenas of Nîmes, Verona and Doué-en-Anjou. With a woodcut mark by Christophe Plantin on the title. Joint edition of the two treatises, published the year after the joint original.
