In-4, (4of which the second is blank)-29-(one)pp. in glazed fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated with black title-pieces, boards framed with a frieze of gilt palmettes and a black fillet with a gilt besant at the corners, decorated edges, inner gilt roulette, gilt edges; spine faded (r.by Simier). First edition. A MISOGYNE diatribe also part of the quarrel between Ancients and Moderns, and between Jansenists and Jesuit casuists. The anti-feminist charge prompted the publication of numerous responses, notably by Jean-François Regnard, Charles Perrault and Perrault's niece Marie-Jeanne L'Héritier, one of Madame de Scudéry's precious friends.
