1957 Porsche 356 1600 A 1600 Reutter Coupe - Lot 257
1957 Porsche 356 1600 A 1600 Reutter Coupe Serial number 101128 Engine number 66274 - Desirable Mille Miglia-eligible 1600 cm3 version - Quality restoration: 115,000 euros in invoices! - Porsche certificate - MATCHING NUMBERS The first Porsche, number 356-001 in 1948, had no roof. It was a two-seater roadster whose design by Erwin Komenda would change very little throughout the life of the 356, if not for all the brand's models up to the present day. Porsche has always been loyal to Komenda, just as he was during his career with Ferdinand. The 356 coupés and cabriolets were born of this initial design as early as 1949. The recipe was simple: a mass-produced Volkswagen base, a lightly tuned engine and a design sufficiently modified to confer sports car status. Success came quickly. Production resources were no longer sufficient, and the 356s were produced at Reutter and Heuer before returning to the Zuffenhausen factory. By 1951, the little Porsche had already made its nest in the world of sports cars with a class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. At last, the company had the resources to develop it further. A roadster was added to the catalog in 1952, followed by a speedster in 1954. At the same time, engines became more powerful and more varied. In 1956 came the 356 A, subtly rejuvenating the design of the little Porsche, even welcoming a brand-new 1600 cm3 CE to its catalog, while the running gear was updated. This Porsche 356 A 1600 cm3 was built in October 1957. It was ordered in ORANGE (5711) with chrome wheels and MPH speedometer. A few years ago, this car underwent a top-quality restoration, in which everything was redone, except for the upholstery, which was kept in beautiful condition. The color was changed to a red that suits it perfectly. In all, more than 115,000 euros were spent on the project, which lasted more than 8 years. Since then, the car has been driven very little and is now in beautiful condition. A mythical car, eligible for the world's finest events, this 356 deserves the attention of enthusiasts of the marque, as fine examples are rare on the market. 1957 Porsche 356 1600 A 1600 Reutter Coupe Serial number 101128 Engine number 66274 - Desirable 1600 cm3 version eligible for the Mille Miglia - Quality restoration: 115,000 euros in invoices! - Porsche certificate - MATCHING NUMBERS The first Porsche, the one numbered 356-001 in 1948, had no roof.
