First presented in 1966, the Lotus Europa embodies the avant-garde of automotive design with its innovative architecture and low-slung silhouette. Developed by Colin Chapman, the model's philosophy is based on extreme lightness and exemplary handling, making the Europa a true sports car built for performance.
In 1972, Lotus introduced the Europa Special, the ultimate version of the range. It was initially powered by the Renault 16 engine, a 1.6-liter block that developed 82 HP in its early versions. But it was with the arrival of the Ford Twin Cam, a 1.6-liter twin-cam engine, that the car reached its full potential. This new block, fitted with two Weber carburetors, enabled the Europa Spécial to develop up to 126 HP, offering impressive performance for a car weighing less than 800 kg.
Produced until 1975, with only 3130 examples produced, the Lotus Europa Spécial is today a rare and highly prized car among collectors. Its unique combination of technical ingenuity and driving pleasure makes it an essential model in the brand's history.
This Lotus Europa Special was bought new in 1973 in the United States. It had several owners before arriving in California. It was then imported to France by its current owner via Automobiles de Sologne on July 01, 2015. Shortly after its acquisition, the car underwent a restoration with over €15,000 in invoices. Numerous elements have been overhauled, including the body, engine and interior.
The car is waiting to be fully appreciated by its future owner. The dial will have to be revised.
