In 1969, Citroën began making models and then prototypes of the car destined to replace the DS. On September 1, 1974, the Citroën CX was finally unveiled to the public. 2 models were selected for launch: the CX 2000 with a 1,985 cc engine and the CX 2200 with a 2,175 cc engine. In 1975, the CX won 3 awards: Car of the Year 1975, Safety Award and Style Award.
February 1976 saw the launch of the Prestige, based on the station wagon chassis. Unlike its predecessor, the DS, Citroën created a genuine limousine, 25 cm longer. Production was entrusted to Heuliez, which was better placed to handle production than the struggling Chapron.
At the start of the 1977 school year, the Prestige was fitted with a raised roof to enhance on-board comfort. President Giscard D'Estaing was one of its first customers.
As the Cx evolved, the Prestige was equipped with the best engines in the range.
In March 1986, the Prestige Turbo 2 appeared, the ultimate evolution of this legendary car. Under the hood, the engine finally received a heat exchanger, ensuring exceptional performance and better availability of its 168 hp. Equipped with this engine, the Prestige is at last the worthy descendant of the Sublime SM Opera.
As a true Limousine, the Prestige would become the car of choice for top executives, crowned heads and the elite of the republic.
Ironically, it wasn't until 1995, 6 years after production ceased, that it achieved iconic status during a Dantesque tour of Paris following Jacques Chirac's election on May 7, 1995.
The example we're presenting here was delivered to a Paris dealership on May 7, 1988, to a company director. Acquired by his company, it would be returned to his name after a few years. He kept it until 2021, servicing it regularly in the network.
It was then acquired by its current owner, an important collector who undertook a major refurbishment of the car. Bodywork, fittings, hydraulics and mechanics were all overhauled, at a total cost of over 18,000 euros.
Today, this CX is in generally good condition.
