1958 JAGUAR XK150 FHC - Lot 233
1958 JAGUAR XK150 FHC Serial number 583494 Good condition Collector's registration Jaguar won the 24 Hours of Le Mans several times during the 1950s, between 1951 and 1957. It was in 1957, almost 10 years after the launch of the family's eldest car, the 120, that Jaguar unveiled the XK150, marking a break with the brand's previous models. The car's lines are softened, and the windscreen is now a single curved plane, like the coupe's rear window. Mechanically, the biggest difference is the introduction of disc brakes, which Jaguar had introduced at Le Mans in 1954. Mechanically, the 3.4 L, 190 hp engine is tried and tested and perfectly reliable. The interior has also undergone a number of changes, with the dashboard now covered in leather rather than wood veneer. Unlike the E-Type, the XK 150 doesn't suffer from heat. Its large radiator and mechanical fan make it easy to use in today's traffic conditions. The Jaguar XK150 we offer is a Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) model with a 3.4-liter engine and manual gearbox. Delivered new by Jaguar's Casablanca distributor on January 16, 1958, this car retains its original charm, with a beautiful patina of old paintwork, redone a few years ago in British Racing Green. The period interior also shows a beautiful patina, adding to its character. To improve cooling, an electric fan has been installed for better temperature management. On the road, this XK150 delivers a ride in keeping with expectations of such a classic model, offering a pleasant and authentic driving experience. Nevertheless, a general overhaul is in order. In 1957, following nearly a decade after the launch of the XK120, Jaguar introduced the XK150, marking a distinct break from its predecessors. The design became sleeker, with a more refined body line and a one-piece curved windshield, as well as a similarly styled rear window for the coupe. Mechanically, the most significant upgrade was the introduction of disc brakes, first seen on Jaguar's Le Mans race cars since 1954, offering improved braking performance. Under the hood, the XK150 featured the 3.4-liter engine, producing 190 horsepower-a reliable and well-tested powerplant. The interior saw notable refinements, such as the shift from wood veneer to a leather-covered dashboard, providing a more luxurious feel. Unlike the later E-Type, the XK150 doesn't suffer from overheating issues, thanks to its large radiator and mechanical fan, making it better suited for modern driving conditions. The Jaguar XK150 we present is a Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) model, equipped with a 3.4-liter engine and manual transmission. Delivered new by Jaguar's Casablanca distributor on January 16, 1958, this example retains much of its original charm. The British Racing Green paintwork was refreshed several years ago and now exhibits a delightful patina, enhancing its character. Inside, the period-correct original interior also shows a lovely patina, reflecting the car's authenticity. An electric fan has been added to improve cooling, ensuring better temperature management during driving. On the road, this XK150 offers the authentic and enjoyable driving experience expected from such a classic model. However, it should be noted that a clutch service may be required in the near future.
