1927 Darmont Special - Lot 227
1927 Darmont Special Engine no. 53001 (vehicle registration) Carte grise de collection Roger Darmont cyclecars, under license from Morgan, were manufactured in Courbevoie by Roger Darmont, agent for France since 1919. He subsequently marketed his own vehicles, culminating in the Darmont Spécial in 1925. The Darmont Spécial quickly became the darling of the small Courbevoie manufacturer's faithful. The engine is a French version of the English Blackburne. On November 1, 1926, Darmont announced that it would go on sale, but deliveries would not take place until 1927, after it had passed through the Mines. In Moto Revue, the manufacturer claims that the Darmont Spécial meets the demand of numerous sportsmen wishing to take part in sporting events. According to advertising at the time, it was "capable" of speeds of up to 150 km/h. The Darmont Spécial was a great success, collecting laurels in events such as the kilometer run, hill climb, etc. For example, taken from the Darmont 1926 catalog: this vehicle also holds 9 world speed records, including Le kilomètre lancé (June 19, 1925) at 166.390 km/h! Over the years, the Darmont Spécial would be split into a "Série Normale" and a "Série Luxe", offering a single or double magneto engine. Naturally, this refinement came at a price: at 13500 Frs in 1927, the standard Darmont Spécial was worth almost twice as much as a naked sports model (without windscreen or lighting), but half the price of a Citroën B14 G cabriolet... or an Amilcar CGSs! The Darmont Spécial is an atypical vehicle with a sporty driving style that provides its owners with unique sensations incomparable to other cyclecars. 1927 Darmont Special Chassis no.
