1954 Packard Clipper - Lot 200
1954 Packard Clipper Super Panama Hardtop Coupe - Chassis number 5467 3004 - Engine number M310576H - French registration - Without reserve - Sold by designation When he left appliance manufacturer Hotpoint to join Packard in 1952, President James Nance unveiled a new strategy to ensure the company's success. He reintroduced the Clipper name, and in 1954, while retaining the family grille, the Clipper received completely new rear fenders and was offered in three sub-series to compete in the mid-range market. The Clipper Special is the least expensive, followed by the Deluxe and Super Clipper. At the top of the Clipper Super range was the Panama, a handsome hardtop coupe. Only 3,618 examples were built. The Panama was powered by Packard's mid-sized in-line eight-cylinder, a 327 cm3 version developing 165 hp. This car was equipped with the famous Ultramatic transmission. Originally painted in Sahara Sand and black roof, its interior (in fine condition) in black and red leather-nylon, made, according to the company, the "Clipper Panama one of America's most remarkable sports cars". The car offered for sale has not been driven for some twenty years, and the keys are missing. The car belonged to Ramón Víctor Caballero y Díaz de Bedoya, son of Paraguayan president Bernardino Caballero Melgarejo, Paraguayan politician and ambassador to Paris. The car could become a magnificent Rat Rod, or benefit from a state-of-the-art restoration. - Chassis number 5467 3004 - Engine number M310576H - French registration - Without reserve - Sold by designation When he left household appliance manufacturer Hotpoint to join Packard in 1952, President James Nance unveiled a new strategy to ensure the company's success.
