1951 VINCENT Comet type Serial number: RC17239 500 cm3 Collector's registration 12 000 / 18 000 € The Vincent Comet was designed and built at the Vincent Works in Great North Road, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England. It was one of four unique 499 cm3 models. The A prototype was refined and developed into a B production model, but after the Second World War it was the development of the C series that represented the ultimate Vincent 500 cc. A D series was designed and one was built at the factory. Others had to be built later from spare parts, since Vincent production ceased in 1955. The single-cylinder, overhead-camshaft, air-cooled 499 cm3 Vincent engine featured a light-alloy body, cast-iron cylinder head and oil reservoir. It had a Burman four-speed gearbox. All Comet models had both front suspension (Vincent Girdraulic forks) and rear suspension with damping, at a time when most manufacturers had only front suspension. Offering a top speed of 145 km/h and reasonable fuel consumption, it is an ideal touring machine for the connoisseur who placed good handling and build quality above pure performance. Previously registered in the UK, the Vincent Comet is now registered in France as a collector's model. It was bought by its owner from Bonhams, and the catalog stated that "the Comet was described as having a new clutch (2005), a reconditioned magneto and a new advance/delay control box, a new carburettor bowl and a new left footrest". As soon as it was purchased in 2014, Mr Mauret sent it to District Motos in Urou and Crennes for a complete overhaul.
