108. COFFRET NECESSAIRE DE PISTOLET BERGMANN N°3 MODELE 1896, A REPETITION AUTOMATIQUE. In chagrin-covered wood, sheathed in velvet and green silk, containing a n°3 self-repeating pistol. Round barrel. Carcass stamped "Gaggenau Suhl V.C.S." on the right and numbered "1061"; "Patent Breveté SGDG" on the left, stamped and numbered "278" on the barrel. Finely checkered walnut stock plates. Bronze, blued and yellowed finish. With its accessories: two clips, an oil flask, a screwdriver and a cleaning rod with wooden handles, original ribbon in the lid, with inscription. Gun length: 25.5 cm. Cassette: 29 x 18 x 5 cm. T.B.E. Rare. Historical background: The principle of the first automatic pistols was revolutionary (and remains the basis for the operation of modern automatic weapons): the recuperation of firing pressure to automatically cock the weapon and reload it at the same time. The Bergmann's mobile bolt action made this possible.
