HACQUEBUTE A CROC, POUR SYSTEME A MECHE. Bronze buttstock, smoothbore, beaded, eight-sided at the muzzle, topped by a front sight and reinforcement ring, decorated with the Bourbon family coat of arms in thunder, fitted with a small sighting tunnel, right-side light. Pan-shaped breech with small pierced tail, fitted with two strong pierced mounting lugs. B.E. 16th century. Overall length: 73 cm. Caliber: 28 mm. Presented on plexiglass base. Related work : -An escutcheon with similar arms, those of Jean II de Bourbon, can be found in the collections of the Musée Augustin Bernard (Bourbon l'Archambault). A number of known hacquebutes or cannons bearing city coats-of-arms, including that of Paris (Musée de l'armée) or Tonnerre (Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille).
