Moïse KISLING (1891-1953) Portrait of Suzanne... - Lot 202 - Osenat
Moïse KISLING (1891-1953) Portrait of Suzanne de Saint-Jean wife of Raymond Fischof, 1944 Oil on canvas Signed, annotated "New York", dated and dedicated "to Suzanne de Saint-Jean de tout coeur" upper right 41 x 33 cm To be included in "Volume IV and Addenda to Volumes I, II and III" of the Catalogue Raisonné of Moïse Kisling's work currently being prepared by Marc Ottavi. Provenance : Suzanne and Raymond Fischof, Paris (acquired from the artist) During the forties, Kisling's stylistic research was characterized by tight framing, usually against a neutral background, aimed at retranscribing the psychology of the models. The sparse hair, the slight tilt of the face, the stretching of the almond-shaped eyes and the finesse of the eyebrows all hark back to Italian Renaissance painting, while the stylization and synthesizing of forms inscribe his portraits in a refined realism. Expert : Marc OTTAVI
