In-12, midnight-blue morocco, spine ribbed, cloisonné and fleuronné, gilt small-iron lace framing the covers, filleted edges, gilt interior framing of fillets and vegetal friezes, gilt edges over marbling. FIRST EDITION. Numerous woodcuts in the text, engraved after drawings by several artists, including Felician von Myrbach-Rheinfeld and Luigi Rossi. EXEMPLAIRE ENRICHED WITH A SIGNED AUTOGRAPH LETTER FROM ALPHONSE DAUDET, to his "Charles", concerning clashes with literary critics (a "bunch of thugs"), notably from the newspaper Le Soleil: "... Act with caution... No violence, I beg you. Insolence, to the death, and if we fight, let it be outside France...
