RARE AND MOVING HANDKERCHIEF OF EMPEROR NAPOLEON IER, USED DURING HIS ILLNESS AT SAINTE HELENE AND COMING FROM ABBE VIGNALI, HIS CHAPLAIN. In white thread, hemmed all around, embroidered in one corner with the "N" under the imperial crown. Size: 71.5 x 71.5 cm. (Stains, small holes). AB.E. First Empire period. Presented and protected in an oak display case topped with a gilded brass eagle-under-crown motif. The 1839 notarized deed describing the handkerchief under number 21 is attached: "Son mouchoir qui a reçu son dernier soupir et ses larmes". Source : - This handkerchief was brought back by Abbé Vignali, the Emperor's chaplain on St. Helena. - The handkerchief was inherited from the Abbé's sister Roséane Vignali, wife Gianettini. It is described under no. 21 in a request addressed on August 21, 1839 to the President of the Corte Court of First Instance, with a view to taking possession of objects from the Abbé's estate, deposited at the Mont de Piété. - Sold on October 26, 1977 at Hôtel Drouot Rive Gauche, room 1, by Maîtres Champetier de Ribes, D.
