1ST TYPE IMPERIAL GUARD MAMELUK SABER, MODEL 1802. Basane-covered wooden handle with filigree. Brass mounting, rounded cap with short skirt, pierced for the lanyard to pass through, fitted with a ring. Guard with auricles and two straight quillons with bolted sides. Flat, curved blade with flat back engraved "Mfture de Klingenthal Coulaux Frères Entreprs" and counter-edge. One side engraved on the heel "P.A. 29" and stamped "LW" by Inspector Benjamin Levasseur and "M" by Controller Jean Jacques Mouton. Basane-covered wooden scabbard with leather hollow and brass fittings. Chappe open on the back to allow the blade to pass through. Two round boss bracelets and two brass rings. Long plain brass buckler with iron stinger. Chappe and bouterole are joined by two side rods for reinforcement. A.B.E. Consulat period. Bibliography : See Ariès 1st issue 1980, Fig 1 A.
