PRINCE IMPERIAL (LOUIS-NAPOLEON BONAPARTE, KNOWN AS LE). 4 manuscripts. 1871 [-years 1870]. - Autograph manuscript signed with his initial. April 22, 1871. Passage from L'ART POETIQUE DE NICOLAS BOILEAU: "Durant les premiers ans du parnasse françois / Le caprice tout seul faisait toutes les lois / La rime au bout des mots assemblés sans mesure / Tenait lieu d'ornements, de nombre et de césure..." (one p. in-16 oblong). - Autograph manuscript. [1870s]. Dissertation on THE NOTION OF FATALITY, which the Imperial Prince analyzes in 3 categories, "1. mathematical (or absolute) fatality, 2. logical (relative) fatality, 3. sentimental fatality". He concludes with a moral: "One must know the value of a word before using it - who says fatalist says coward (in the old sense of the word)" (3/4 p. folio, some light soiling). - Autograph manuscript entitled "QUESTIONS AGRICOLES". [Between 1878 and 1879]. The Imperial Prince requests the Annuaire statistique de la France (annual publication of the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, launched in 1878), the Journal d'agriculture, information on the agricultural press, on Crédit agricole, on the Société des agriculteurs de France, etc. (one p. in-folio in pencil on Stowford Mills laid paper 1877). - Autograph manuscript. S.d. Well-documented and quantified reflections on "THE AVILISSEMENT OF THE PRICE OF GRAIN, brought about by foreign competition", which reduces farmers' incomes but favors consumers, and on the possible remedy to be found "in the economic transformation itself..., in the revision of customs tariffs..., in the transformation of cultivation in certain countries of France..." (2 pp. folio, erasures and additions).
