After manufacturing his first motorcycle in 1895, he created a brand in 1898 and filed his first patent in 1904. Renowned for their sturdiness and reliability, René Gillet motorcycles are particularly appreciated by the army and the police. The sidecar is an ideal means of transportation for families. (The 1,000 cm3 and 750 cm3 are the brand's specialty, but also the 500 cm3 and 350 cm3). Engaged in many races in the endurance, (the Bol d'Or won several times), these motorcycles make the joy of the connoisseurs. In view of the success, René Gillet decided to expand his factory in 1938. After his death on December 31, 1944, his company closed in 1957. His engine is the most widespread of the large V-twin engines of French construction. This engine was mainly used for sidecars.
