1987 CITROEN - Lot 86
1987 CITROEN Type BX 4 TC Serial number VF7XBX20000XL3011 1 792 kms ! One of the 38 remaining cars Maintained and ready to take the road Real car of homologation in Group B Collector's registration card 70 000 / 80 000 € We are in the 1980's, the Group B is at the top of its art, the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 dominate, followed by the Audi Quattro and other Lancia Delta S4. Citroën felt excluded from this category, and although it was thinking of entering its Lotus Visa in this category, it finally chose the BX, which was more recent and had many sales, and whose image was better for a rally car, a showcase for the brand's know-how. The objective was to launch the BX in Group B for the 1985 season. First of all, 200 production cars had to be built in order to homologate the car for rallying. If the racing version, the "Evolution" was produced at Citroën in Trappes, the "Series 200" was produced at Heuliez. It used a Peugeot 505 engine, a 2.2L turbo four-cylinder developing 200 horsepower transmitted to the four wheels. Its installation made the front of the BX bigger by imposing a more important overhang. To save money, Citroën used CX GTI Turbo rims, a BX Sport spoiler and the SM gearbox. The car appeared in 1985 and was a bit out of place in the Group B landscape. Journalists were cautious and customers did not flock to Citroën. The successes in rally are not at the appointment for the BX of competition, they give up in Monte Carlo, finish 6th in the Rally of Sweden and aim at the Rally of the Acropolis to return with a car finally in the point. But in the meantime, at the Rally of Portugal, the Ford RS200 of Joaquim Santos kills three spectators and injures dozens in a run-off. Shortly afterwards, Toivonen's Lancia Delta S4 exploded in an accident at the Tour de Corse, killing driver and co-driver instantly. The days of Group B were numbered, as the cars were considered too dangerous. Citroën put the project aside and did not finish the development of the BX for the Acropolis Rally where they were again forced to abandon. The firm with the chevrons then decides to stop the expenses in competition. The " Série 200 " are then sold, but remain on the arms of the dealers because only 85 copies of the " Série 200 " for 4 copies of the " Evolution " version, a historical model in the history of Citroën, probably one of the rarest ever marketed by the brand. This BX 4 TC that we present was registered in 1987. It is a 2nd series. It has only 1,792 kms! It must be the model with the least mileage! It is a rare model that is offered today, a car that marked the history of the Citroën competition department, one of the most exclusive "Series 200", less common than the Peugeot 205 T16, Lancia Delta S4, Renault 5 Maxi Turbo and other Audi S1. 1987 CITROEN Type BX 4 TC Serial number VF7XBX20000XL3011 1 792 kms !
