Estate of Mrs. L. WITHOUT RESERVATION 1935 FORD Type V8 Opera Coupé To be registered in collection 20 000 / 30 000 € Sold without reserve price Although work on the design and development of a V8 engine had begun in 1928 under the leadership of engineer C.J. Smith, it was in the summer of 1930 that the revolutionary program really got underway, when Henry returned from a trip to Germany after opening the factory in the city of Cologne. The patriarch (Henry Ford's nickname) mobilized three of his best engineers and secluded himself with them in a secluded place away from the curious, so that he could express his desires and goals. This place is in fact a replica of Edison's laboratory, which Ford has had rebuilt in Greenfield Village, his immense open-air museum. Henry addresses his three colleagues in a solemn manner: "Gentlemen, I have decided to abandon the construction of the 4 cylinder. We are going to surprise Chevrolet and its 6-cylinder with a V-8. From now on, everything you do and hear here must be kept secret. The 1932 Ford V8 pioneered a new casting technique that would give birth to the forerunner of all modern mass-produced V8s. It would become one of the most important engines in the United States for the next 40 years. The Ford group of cars would use this engine in various versions until 1953. The model presented is an Opera coupe in its original condition. We recommend that this car be restarted, as it has remained immobile in its owner's private museum. c1935 FORD Type V8 Opera Coupe To be registered in collection 20 000 / 30 000 € Sold without reserve price Although work on the design and development of a V8 engine had begun in 1928 under the leadership of engineer C.J.
