1951 TALBOT LAGO T15 BABY Series : 121591 French... - Lot 32 - Osenat
1951 TALBOT LAGO T15 BABY Series : 121591 French registration At the end of the 1930s, Talbot was experiencing major financial problems. However, Anthony Lago, head of the Société des Automobiles Talbot, considered that participation in motor racing and the construction of leisure vehicles were inseparable. In his view, cars designed for competition should have a sports version that was accessible to customers. As a result, the company became renowned for its racing-derived powertrains. The Talbot Lago T15 Baby is a sedan built on a short chassis. Presented at the 1949 Paris Motor Show, it retained its pre-war name. Of the 410 cars built, only 68 remain today. Designed for a 4.5-liter displacement, it was also produced in a version more suited to touring cars. It was this second choice that equipped the Lago Baby models of the period, with a 4-cylinder, 2.7-liter, twin-camshaft engine developing 15 hp and a top speed of 140 km/h. This was accompanied by a Wilson pre-selective gearbox and hydraulic brakes. The car we're offering for sale has been kept in its original condition, having been delivered new to a prominent Breton gentleman, who kept it for some twenty years without ever restoring it. The car was then given to a museum, where it was preserved in its original condition without ever being modified. Finally, the current owner acquired the car from the museum, unroadworthy. He then successfully undertook a road test without changing any parts apart from the battery. Today, the vehicle is in exceptional condition, entirely original. A veritable time machine, this Talbot is a fine testimony to the work of time on an automobile preserved in good condition. We were able to drive the vehicle when we received it, and found the mechanics to be in perfect working order, the Wilson gearbox shifting smoothly and the brakes well adjusted. However, in order to get the mechanics working perfectly, we recommend adjusting the carburetors. 1951 TALBOT LAGO T15 BABY Serial number : 121591 French registration At the end of the 1930s, Talbot was experiencing major financial problems.
