UTRILLO (Maurice). Autograph sonnet signed in two places, entitled " L'Art pictural ". Paris, February 25, 1928. 14 verses on one p. in-4.
"When! in France, it is said that any painter in renown / Worthy of the traditions, or Corot or Cormon, / Or of any other spirit somewhat refractory, / CUBIST OR FUTURIST IT IS IMPOSED AND PROVEN... // To people of pure SNOBISM and adulating his name, / By vain procedures he distorts the good tone, / Inspired by the tastes and the tender [?and severe / And all pre[ju]ged fats dear to fools, on earth, // Let me therefore be allowed here as a companion / Sincere and noble and pure, as a non troublemaker in the round, / On this pictorial Art, to emit an austere line, // Georges Kars, in this place of worthy meeting, / Rue Laffitte, at Weill, of the banner-carrying art, / Asserts himself in his inventive and sincere paintings... "
DEDICATED "TO HIS FRIEND AND CONFRERE GEORGES KARS", MONTMARTROIS PAINTER who painted a portrait of Maurice Utrillo in 1926, and who presented a personal exhibition at the Parisian gallery of Berthe Weill, 46 rue Laffitte.
AUTOGRAPH SENDING: "FRIENDLY TO FRANCISQUE POULBOT", ANOTHER FIGURE OF ARTISTIC MONTMARTRE. Francisque Poulbot (1879-1946) was a cartoonist who gave his name to the type of Parisian "titi" that he represented in many humorous scenes.
