Gilt bronze and silver CROSS decorated with scrolled foliage and flowers, glass bead inclusions, and Christ handing the keys to Saint Peter, flattened knot decorated with six flower-shaped cabochons, stem with coat of arms Taillé cousu de gueules au chrismon d'or, et d'azur au rameu d'olivier d'argent et phylactère avec devise DULCEDINE NON VI de l'évêque Pierre-Marie Avon (1847-1901). Stamp on Saint Peter. Late 19th century in the style of medieval crosses. Height: 38.8 cm. Plexiglass base. (some cabochons missing). Bishop Pierre-Marie Avon was ordained priest in 1873, then bishop of Guadeloupe and Basse-Terre on February 4, 1899. He received his episcopal confirmation on November 5, 1899. He died on February 23, 1901.
