ANDREA APPIANI (1754-1817) - Lot 207
ANDREA APPIANI (1754-1817) "The First Consul Bonaparte, President of the Cisalpine Republic (1802-1805)". Wooden frame and gilded stucco of the empire period with a semis of stars. Oil on canvas. 55 x 50 cm. The work we present is most certainly a preparatory study for the one in the Museo del Risogimento in Milan. Andrea Appiani was close to the Emperor and painted several very important portraits of him. Provenance: From the former collections of Joseph Napoleon, Count Primoli. Biography : Joseph-Napoleon PRIMOLI was the son of Pietro Primoli, Count of Foglia (1820-1883), and Princess Charlotte Bonaparte (1832-1901), daughter of Charles-Lucien Bonaparte and his cousin Zenaide Bonaparte. He is thus the nephew of Princess Mathilde. He has built up an important collection of works and memorabilia relating to the Bonaparte family.
